City-wide Flood Left Its Mark at Tamwe

Four months ago in May, a tidal surge caused by tropical storm Akash in the Bay of Bengal led to heavy rains and flash flooding across the nation of Myanmar. According to the Dartmouth Flood Observatory, water up to a meter (3.3 feet) in depth covered 16 townships around the capital city of Yangon, destroying crops and houses. The floods came in the wake of the heaviest rains in decades. The flash floods in Yangon occurred during the middle of the night. Imagine waking up at night, in the dark, without electricity and listening to rushing water. Within minutes you're up to your hips in flood waters.

That's what happened in many parts of Yangon including Tamwe Christian Center where James Khong reported water up to "hip-level" there. He also reported damage there. The torrential rains continued for days and eventually headed towards the northern parts of the country - home to many Myanmar Vision Ministries (MVM) leaders and their families. You are asked to pray for MVM during this time because many MVM pastors, evangelists and believers were affected personally by the flooding. The floods resulted in significant damages including many residences completely destroyed.

At Tamwe Christian Center, the damages were significant especially to computer equipment, recording and music equipment, broadcasting equipment and supporting equipment. As of September 2007, the specific ministries that utilize this equipment are still not operating at full capacity.

If you'd like to make a special donation to offset the costs associated with the damages to Tamwe Christian Center, please donate online through New Mission Systems International. This can be done at:
